Student Council
The Nicasio Student Council consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Photographer. There are two representatives to the 3/4/5 classroom and two representatives to the K/1/2 classroom. Student Council elections are held early in the school year and all candidates are required to put up posters and present a speech to the entire student body. Student Council members meet every other Monday with their teacher advisor during lunch. All items discussed during the meetings are arranged in advance by the President and Vice President. A simple democratic majority is required for each agenda item to pass. Any member of the Council may suggest items for discussion and each member is afforded one vote.
Each Wednesday members of the Student Council present updates regarding spirit days and fundraisers, teacher of the month awards, and birthday announcements at our school wide assemblies.
The Student Council is in charge of creating and implementing our Spirit Days. Members are required to create attractive posters that provide the date and details of each event. Class representatives are required to speak directly to their appropriate classrooms to encourage school-wide participation. Past Spirit Days include: Color Day, Twin Day, Crazy Hair Day, and Clash Day. We aim for 100% participation from all students during these lively events!
The Nicasio Student Council seeks to perform in a way that is truly reflective of thinking globally and acting locally. Our Student Council actively promotes many fundraisers that benefit the school, the community at large, and even people from other countries. The Student Council has been a long standing supporter of the Heifer Project, Toys for Tots, One Warm Coat, and the Marin Food Bank. The Council has also arranged for the funding of a student in another country through Children’s International. The Council has also been quick to help in the case of domestic and international disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, the devastation in Haiti, and the tsunami in Indonesia.
